《现代汉语规范词典》是在著名语言学家吕叔湘倡议和指导下、国家语言文字工作委员会列为“八五”规划重点项目的语文工具书。该词典先后经百余位专家学者历时12年完成。在整个编写工作中，体现了我国知识分子不计名利、艰苦奋斗的优良传统。在编辑过程中，有不少感人的事迹。教育部党组曾对他们进行过表彰。本书记录了他们如何创业，克服各种困难，终于迎来丰硕成果的足迹。
