Summary
司马光是我国古代史学、文学、政治大家，其识见、才能早有公论；他与当时最优秀的史家一起，枯坐19年，抉擿幽隐、荟萃熔铸，用功极深，而成此煌煌大著。成就之高，后人难以企及。故此，译者在翻译时力图贴近、还原《资治通鉴》，泽文典雅，紧贴原著，不以“现代眼光”作解人，不擅作发挥，旨在让读者能读到“干干净净的《资治通鉴》，干干净净的司马君实”。 司马光编写《资治通鉴》之目的在于“资治”，凡有关国家兴衰、生民休戚的重要事件人物，都叙述详明。而对无关国计民生的事及人物，如众多的文人、高隐均不予提及。
