《中国高校英语学习者中介语发展中个体变异的跟踪研究》在动态系统理论的视阈下，通过对四名英语学习者进行跟踪研究，对他们中介语发展的过程进行描述，通过对比找出了个体内及个体间中介语发展的变异，并对造成这些变异的原因进行了分析。本书在对四个个案进行分析的基础上提出，中介语发展可以被看作一个由两个阶段组成的连续体。本书梳理出四种二语发展类型：平衡快速发展型、部分快速发展型、综合缓慢发展型、僵化型。本书的研究结果有助于对二语习得发展规律的探讨，并对中国英语教学有一定的指导意义。
