日本人敬畏西域，即使在今天，西域也依然拥有巨大的魅力。自从我开始写小说——当然也多亏了学生时代所受过的西域的洗礼，我便以西域史为题材，写了几部以西域为舞台的小说。诸如《敦煌》《楼兰》《洪水》《昆仑之玉》《异域之人》等。自从屡屡受邀访问中国之后，我便越发感受到一种诱惑。真想去自己写的小说所涉及的舞台看一看。如今，我终于来到了这里——让我魂牵梦绕四十余年的地方。这便是西域，这便是丝绸之路。
